::paddle pool::

Sometimes when it is too cold in the out of doors for kayaking, we use the paddle pool facility at the Mississauga Canoe Club.  Thanks to Missy for letting us train there.  It's a good way to get the water feeling back, a nice break from paddle machine, running, swimming, gym, etc...

About two weeks till Florida!

::SNOW DAYS!!::

The last couple of days up here in Whistler have been so snowy it's crazy!  It's like the stop-motion Christmas Reindeer special from when we were kids, minus the reindeer and false notions of santa, and the stop-motion.  Ok, only just the snow.  Just SO MUCH SNOW!!

So we've been doing training activities in it!  Cross Country Skiing, Snowboarding, and today, Snowshoeing!  Snowshoeing is a lot of fun when you'd be up to your neck if you weren't wearing snowshoes, so we broke the trails all around the ski centre and went to check out Alexander Falls.

We've got just a few more days of hard training up here in the mountains... Whistler is makin' it pretty easy to make the best of it.

1. breakin' the trails, 2. big climb up to callaghan lake, 3. Alexander Falls

::Callaghan Lake::

Welcome to the top!  L2R Gab, Mark, Mehak, Ben, Rublee and me.  Photo Credit to Johnny Hastings.  It was a great climb, and well worth the view!

Skiing out in Whistler has been epic.  Lots of big training days out at Callaghan Valley and at the Lost Lakes trails.  The facilities at Whistler Athletes Centre have been amazing, a true legacy of the incredible Olympics our Country hosted last February.  We're all very thankful for the opportunity to train here... big thanks to Whistler Sport Legacy and everyone here at the Athletes Center, to Own the Podium and Canoe Kayak Canada, and to Mazda Canada for the sweet wheels!

We've got another week here, and a tonne more kilometers to rip through the mountains.  Loving it!

::out of office reply::

Hey... if your out of office reply email is still on, turn it off.  Nobody believes you went Dec. 22nd-Jan3rd with "no access to email or phone".  Where'd you go for the Holidays, Mars?  Eastern Europe?  It's impossible to go somewhere with no access to email or phone, so just tell the truth: "I'm taking a small break from the unfortunate socially driven need to reply to you within 3 minutes over the holidays this year, so please be patient, and maybe talk to somebody in the same room as you with words for a few minutes".  It's ok, in fact it's better than ok, it's awesome and I wish we'd all do that more.  I wish we could.

So I'm in the mountains of beautiful British Columbia with my friends for a few weeks making my heart pump more and more blood around my body by skiing as fast as I can through the forest.  Their license plates aren't lying, I think this just might be "the best place on Earth".  I can't imagine anywhere I'd rather be, anything I'd rather be doing, or anyone I'd rather be doing it with.  I am so very fortunate, so thanks to all the supporters and enablers that make doing what Canadian Athletes do, possible.  This, and next summer, I want to hear O Canada on the loudspeakers.  It's such a great song, it's our song, and it's a lovely reward for all this hard work.

To quote my favourite author, and in an attempt to live by his wise words just a little:

"I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.'"
